I connect to an Ubuntu installation I have on AWS via iTerm and the colours are not practical. For example the "blue on black" colouring of folders on list view is almost impossible to read.
How can I change this? I am a little lost with all the literature around terminal colouring :)
You should read the manual for dircolors
man dircolors
And examin the $LS_COLORS variable

You can change the dir value to something like this:
DIR 40;33
And you will have DIRs in the same colors as FIFO files.
