I can't figure out what I did that's causing this issue. This is xubuntu latest version 12.04.02 LTS

Disabling and enabling modules I figured out that the problem was being caused by ACPI -> FAN

I think you have problem with your version of kernel or some md5sum is missing you can the kernel package located in here
