Whenever I log into my Windows 7 desktop from my Windows 7 laptop using RDC, the Num Lock is enabled on the host computer and it is not disabled after disconnecting. What can I do to stop the Num Lock from being enabled or automatically disable it at the end of the session?

(I do not know if this happens only on Windows 7 and have no way of checking, so I went with the generic Windows tag)

Your laptop might be driving this. Try disabling the numlock on your laptop before you remote desktop. That works for me on my Windows XP machines.

EDIT: You could also try changing the default numlock setting in your desktop's registry: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/196/

That's probably not it. The laptop does not have a numpad, so I always keep num lock disabled on it. – PressAnyKey Jan 28 '10 at 20:49
See edit. Another option to try. – DWong Jan 28 '10 at 20:56
I have this registry change applied to my desktop (it also has a keyboard with no numpad). Do you think I should maybe try to apply it to the laptop? – PressAnyKey Jan 28 '10 at 20:59
You could try, but I doubt it would change anything. Should have the same effect as manually disabling numlock on your laptop, then remoting to your desktop. And you already mentioned that you keep it disabled. – DWong Jan 28 '10 at 21:38
