I'm trying to install CentOS 5 on a Dell Vostro 200. When booting normally from the CD it hangs on the pre Anaconda screen "Loading ata_piix driver....". It also shows the text:

Disabling IRQ #217

As the last line in the console, I assume this is something to do with the sata in the machine, I have tried swapping the disk to no avail. If you boot from cd with the noprobe parameter

This machine previously had Fedora 9 on it working correctly, however Fedora 12 as refuses to install. I have found a number of references to this problem on the net but no obvious answer to fix it at install time.

I did ponder if this question would do better on serverfault, will wait and see.

Any help much appreciated.
