I am replacing an old motherboard with 6 PCI slots attached with 6 PCI fax cards.

Form factor is ATX.

Anybody know which brand/model I can purchase with that many slots?

Or is there an alternative?

PS: I prefer not to use more than 1 PC.

If you actually want a server motherboard with 6 PCI slots there are lots to choose from (supermicro etc) but I suspect you want this for your own home PC, in which case this question will be best answered on superuser.com – Chopper3 Feb 5 '10 at 9:10
Form factor? PCI, or PCI-X? What socket/chipset? How many RAM slots? If you want any meaningful help, ask the question in a meaningful way. – MDMarra Feb 5 '10 at 9:13
newegg presently offers exactly 1 consumer mobo with 5x PCI slots and 1 server mobo with 5x PCI slots. not looking good. an alternative might be to use another type of fax card that puts more interfaces on the card. can you add any details about the fax card? that seems central to your requirements (while CPU and memory seem a distant secondary). – quack quixote Feb 5 '10 at 10:32
Have you considered higher density fax cards? Perhaps you've already got the highest density, can't tell from your question. digi.com/products/serialcards/acceleportrasfamily.jsp#overview – Brian Knoblauch Feb 5 '10 at 15:11

The ITOX LT600-DR is an ATX form factor motherboard, built around an Intel 945G chipset, with:

  • Six PCI slots
  • One PCI Express x16 slot
  • LGA 775 CPU socket
  • Four DDR2 slots
  • Four SATA headers featuring onboard RAID
  • Dual integrated gigabit NIC cards
  • Integrated graphics
  • Integrated audio
  • PS/2 keyboard and mouse
  • Four USB 2.0 ports

If my understanding of your requirements is good, then this motherboard should fit your bill nicely.

For reference, other ATX form factor motherboards from ITOX having 6 PCI slots include:

Good luck with your fax server!

Supermicro does list a few. See their motherboard comparison chart and remember that PCI-X slots should are backward compatible with standard PCI.

For example the Supermicro PDSMA+ sold at Newegg has 5 PCI and 1 PCI-X so it should be what you are looking for.

It is uncommon (at least outside the server market) to find a motherboard with more than 2 PCI slots, and very rare to see one with more than 4, as most are the smaller mATX form rather than ATX and have space given over to PCI-E slots instead.

Before anyone can suggest alternatives you need to tell people (add the details to your question) what you are currently doing with the PCI slots - what hardware is in the current machine and what do you use it to achieve? Also what other features do you require?
