Any suggestion for free scanning software Windows XP? I have a scanner but I don't have scanning software.

Any idea is appreciated.

Thank you.

Windows XP has a built-in scanning tool which will work with almost all scanners. It's called Windows Scanner and Fax Wizard or something to that effect, and can be found under Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories. As long as your scanner is properly installed, that should work for you.

in XP it's called Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) – Molly7244 Feb 15 '10 at 14:34

Xsane - XSane is designed for acquiring images with scanners (there are other devices like cameras and videodevices supported by SANE, but XSane is not designed for that purpose). You can scan to file, do a photocopy, create a fax, create and send a mail and start XSane from the GIMP as gimp plug in. XSane-WIN32 is a version of XSane that runs on WIN32 (Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP).

What scanner do you have exactly? Most scanners come packaged with their own custom scanning software, or have it available for free download on their website.

I'm unaware of free scanning software that works with all scanners, but for basic scanning functionality, there is FreeKapture. It requires an Epson or HP scanner:
