I unfortunately dropped my MacBook, a part of its screen is blacked out and has other issues. I can invest $300 to fix it. But I feel that it might be better to buy a $300 NetBook.

But then the MacBook would be now pretty much useless.

So I don't know what to do. Is there a better solution? Cheaper fixing?

There's a huge difference between a Macbook and a $300 netbook. I'd suggest repairing the Macbook in any case. You could always sell it like Bbrado suggested if you're worried about money. – musicfreak Feb 15 '10 at 21:20

Is your macbook still under warranty or under apple coverage ? Before buying a netbook, got to an Apple authorized reseller or an apple store and ask them what's the reparation cost !

A netbook will be a step backwards in term of quality and performance !

What kind of MacBook? I.e. when fixed, will it be worth more than $300 (e.g. when selling on ebay)? OTOH, broken Mac hardware (if it good shape otherwise) seems to sell reasonably (and sometimes irrationally) well on ebay.

You can always use it as a headless server / media center. Plug in an external monitor and turn it into a desktop?
