2 finger commands for scrolling up and down a page work, but 3 and 4 button mouse commands don't work anymore in my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.

What happened? How can they be re-enabled?

Functionality returns after Safari is started. Is this normal? – Phenom Feb 19 '10 at 5:28
To clarify, do the commands just not work in Firefox (because it's a cross-platform program with really crappy OS X integration), or do they not work in any program, as long as Firefox is running? – Daniel Beck Mar 11 at 9:18

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Trackpad

Double check all your settings in there. On the left there is a bunch of check boxes you can pick what to enable.

They're all checked, just not working. – Phenom Feb 18 '10 at 20:59
also try to disable/re-enable the appropriate options ... sometimes that's all that's needed – Dominik Feb 18 '10 at 21:00
Which options? I think I already tried that. – Phenom Feb 18 '10 at 21:07
The options in that under 3 & 4 finger gestures. Uncheck them, restart, check them again (as Dominik suggets). If that doesn't work, below is a slightly more drastic measure I found on Apple's forums. It suggests a couple things by people that have run into the same issue as you; discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2223030&tstart=0 – Nextraztus Feb 18 '10 at 21:46
Apparently normal functionality returns if I start Safari. If I start off with Mozilla Firefox 3 and 4 finger trackpad movements don't work, but once I open up Safari their functionality returns. – Phenom Feb 20 '10 at 3:14
