I purchased a DVD RW , then realized that it has a SATA interface whereas my motherboard only supports IDE. I therefore bought a IDE to SATA convertor hoping this wld solve the issue. The problem is that my BIOS still does not detect my DVD drive as a IDE drive. Have checked the power to DVD drive is OK as the tray opens and closes. Its just that my machine wont detect it.

Need some help here..as i am currently staring 2 pieces of hardware but have no idea how to fix this.

I remember when purchasing a similar adapotor (SATA->IDE) the sales person said: "Are you sure you want that?" and "Good luck with that one.", meaning that those things sometimes worked and sometimes didn't, depending on a variety of factors. I bought it and hoped for the best and was actually lucky, but it doesn't always seem to be that way. – Nicholaz Feb 24 '10 at 16:15
were u able to work with a Hard disk or an optical drive...coz looks like optical drives dont play nicely with the the convertors. – LatishS Feb 24 '10 at 16:38
Which direction does it go? meaning, does it convert an IDE Device to SATA, or a SATA Device to IDE.. they are not the same beast! – Grizly Feb 24 '10 at 16:57
it is a biderctional one..there r 2 connections...one for IDE to SATA and another SATA to IDE. – LatishS Feb 24 '10 at 18:06
