share [g+] share [fb]

I'm helping (pro bono) a really cool musician make samples of his music available so folks can share it. Essentially "shareware" for his music.

Surely someone must have done this before.

So far, I've found : http://sutros.com/ which is free but I've not read up on their Creative Commons license.

And found a list here of other sites: http://www.vocalist.org.uk/artists_upload.html

Any other suggestions?

As far as licenses go, Creative Commons is a very good choice, check out creativecommons.org/about/licenses for the different versions of it and how they work. – marcusw Feb 26 '10 at 16:57
this seems to be more of a "where do i upload my clips" question than a "how do i make my clips" question. the latter would be ontopic here; the former would be appropriate on the proposed Web Applications site. – quack quixote Jun 19 '10 at 21:07
since I just put in a "commit" on area 51 for web apps I don't feel so bad adding jamendo.com for Clay's benefit and hope I don't incur The Wrath of Quack. – msw Jun 19 '10 at 22:24
I know some indie musicians (e.g. Nicholas Megalis) put their music on archive.org, but I don't know the process. – Lèse majesté Jun 19 '10 at 23:46

myspace has become a big spot for this. Music Tweak gives advice on how to use myspace to promote yourself / band.

Unfortunately my experience with MYSPACE has been very poor - difficult to build, forced into layouts that I don't want, and, on top of everything, my site was hijacked and destroyed at a very critical moment. I have since found out that this is not an unusual thing. I'm sorry I don't have a better solution. I have gotten a very inexpensive site on doteasy and I'm lucky enough to have a friend who can set it up for me. Here's a site one of my friends uses: indiepool.com/main/showcase/index.asp?id=15737 – Xavierjazz Feb 26 '10 at 17:11

Have you tried Audacity? Free, and available for Windows.
