Which country's internet access laws protect the individual more than any other?

Can you drill down on 'protect the individual' a little more? China sensors the entire Internet; in the West you're still monitored but you're not censored in the same way. All traffic is IP-based, which can be tracked. – goblinbox Mar 18 '10 at 3:15

Should be community wiki. – Xavierjazz Mar 18 '10 at 4:06
Now the title contradicts the question. "Who has the most unencumbered internet" vs "What country protects the individual most." – Josh K Mar 18 '10 at 5:03
I hear Sealand has it pretty good en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand – Zoredache Mar 18 '10 at 6:57

While it's not a "country" per se, I believe FreeNet offers the most unencumbered internet access while still protecting the user.

FreeNet has a great concept, but falls apart in practice. – George Edison Mar 19 '10 at 5:12
Currently I have 40 peers within an hour of connecting. How is that falling apart in practice? – Josh K Mar 19 '10 at 5:35

I'd say the US has the best protection of freedom for internet users while still ensuring compliance of internet law by US-owned domains.

I second that... The US is by far the best. – anon31097 Mar 18 '10 at 3:41
Care to put that in the form of an upvote? – George Edison Mar 19 '10 at 5:11
