I want a space on web. I want to give the username and password of that web space to several users and every user can upload the content to that space but can't delete the content from there.

Any suggestions?

Super User isn't for questions about websites or services. – quack quixote Mar 25 '10 at 19:05
Sounds more like you want a file host, which is something anybody could do in half an hour of PHP, Python, Perl, or whatever server-side language you prefer. – Phoshi Mar 25 '10 at 19:09
I just want a web space so that any user can upload a file to that space and the admin can download the files from there. This is solved by having a web space and accessing it via. ftp protocol. But the problem is that the user can also delete the file uploaded by other users on the ftp server... Can we set privileges in ftp server so as to restrict users from deleting the content from the server – user17175 Mar 25 '10 at 19:16

@user17175: ahh, that's a much more interesting question. "how do i configure permissions on my FTP site to prevent users from deleting files" is on-topic here. you should edit your question to include that, and other important details like what FTP server software you are running. – quack quixote Mar 25 '10 at 21:31

2 approaches:

1) Check out some of the upload sites - such as moody and stuff - they offer some advanced management / access capabilities.

2) Most modern CMSes would have a plugin for this - I know for a fact that Joomla and Drupal do. If you are looking for a stand alone script - check out here : HotScripts - this is a repo of various scripts including file managment in most popular web technologies: PHP, ASP, Perl, etc.

As far as the actual space - I'm sure good folks at serverfault can recommend some - but any larger host will offer a lot of space for pennies: godaddy, dreamhost, bluehost, etc. It' all depend on your needs: traffic, speed, amount of space, etc.

Yes, usually you can set up the rights of ftp users to allow them to upload but not to delete.
