After installing VirtualBox 3.1.6 for Windows, my computer's network connections were completely disabled. The wireless isn't working, not even the ethernet landline. Even "ipconfig" doesn't seem to respond to any commands.

Can anybody help?

Can you restore using System Restore? Before I do any virtualization work (virtualbox, vmware, etc) I always take a System Restore point.

I ended up doing just that. Now I have to stick with Virtual PC until VirtualBox fixes this issue. –  Tawani Apr 1 '10 at 17:41

I have the same problem with Windows 7 Enterprise: As soon as I start the Virtualbox Host-only adapter, my actual network devices get disabled. I can enable them and they will connect before going disabled again.

To be fair, it is my work computer and there may be some additional security software at play.
