So here's the idea: I use multiple computers on an almost daily basis. I would like to be able to access my entire music library from any of those computers through the Internet. Is there a service or perhaps some software that would allow me to host my music "in the cloud", or in some other way access it from a different computer?

I've searched for something like this and the closest I've found is the Media Player application found in Opera Unite, but that requires my home computer to be turned on at all times, which is less than ideal. I'm willing to pay, but not so much that I could just rent a private server for a lower price.

Thanks in advance.

@quack quixote: This gets closed, but a completely theoretical question about "saving music wisely" is kept open? superuser.com/questions/132255/… That doesn't make any sense. This question is not subjective/argumentative or off-topic, and is very practical and helpful to others who listen to music on computers. (How is that not computer/software-related?) If it's because this question is not a community wiki, then make it one (although I don't see why), but don't close it. – Sasha Chedygov Apr 19 '10 at 4:27

That looks very cool. How do you play the music? Do they have some kind of online media player that you stream the music from? Or do you have to download a special application to play it? – Sasha Chedygov Mar 31 '10 at 7:07
In other computer you just need internet, they have a nice application online. For ipod, celphones, etc, you need and application. Just they bring 2GB free. – Mak Mar 31 '10 at 14:28

LALA lets you upload as much as you want. And it will continually update as long as you run the program. Also grooveshark lets you upload, I dont see a limit.

Unfortunately, Lala is currently only available to people in the US. – Nifle Mar 31 '10 at 8:11

Orb is my choice. You do have to keep your computer online all the time, but it has a few advantages over MP3 tunes and Lala.

  1. No lengthy initial upload. If you have a sizable collection, your initial upload can take days.
  2. No syncing required. Lala and MP3 tunes require you to upload changes to your music collection. With Orb, if you make changes on your PC, they show up online immediately.
  3. You can edit your metadata. You can update ratings and other tags online and they will be saved back to your collection on your PC.
  4. You can access more than just music. Orb allows you to get to your photos, videos and documents too.

Orb is a great media streamer.

But that requires you to have your computer on, does it not? – Sasha Chedygov Mar 31 '10 at 5:59
