I just did a test with the EICAR test virus.

I downloaded the file eicar.com

Avast was on. If i scan the file it finds it. However if i open it no action is taken.

Just nothing. nothing happens i can open it as many times as i want.

This is very worrying. The new avast is starting to be a pain. I miss the old one.

no offense. but how is this a question? – Kravlin Apr 8 '10 at 18:28
This shouldn't really be an issue. That file is just a dummy one after all. – Aznfin Apr 8 '10 at 18:34

@Aznfin: What's a better way to test your anti-virus software? Install a real virus? – Josh Apr 8 '10 at 23:06
@Josh It would test it. for better or worse. The only thing you have to worry about is if that file is a known false positive then avast wouldn't catch it. however i will admit it is worrysome. – Kravlin Apr 9 '10 at 1:41
you got me Kravlin i forgot to add some question marks. But I guess you understand what the question is. – ULTRA_POROV Apr 9 '10 at 2:05
