what processor does your 1525 have ? – Sathya Apr 9 '10 at 22:23
Just out of curiosity, why are trying to install a server OS on your laptop? I know there are reasons for doing it, but I'm curious what yours is. Also, why do you want x64? Does your laptop have more than 4GB of RAM? If not, you'd be better off using the 32 bit version. – nhinkle Apr 9 '10 at 23:38

The Dell Inspiron 1525 has 4 CPU options according to the Dell website:

  • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00GHz,2M L2 Cache,800MHz FSB)
  • Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5450 (1.66GHz,2M L2 Cache,667MHz FSB)
  • Intel® Core™Duo Processor T2330 (1.6GHz,1M L2 Cache,500MHz FSB)
  • Intel® Celeron® 540 (1.86GHz,1M L2 Cache,533MHz FSB)

The first two are 64-bit CPUs which will support Windows Server 2003 x64. The other two are 32-bit CPUs which will not. As the question above suggests, you need to determine which CPU you have. Since Windows Server 2003 x64 refuses to install I'd guess you have one of the 32-bit CPUs.

It sounds like you need a 32 bit version of windows server. Or else a computer with a 64 bit CPU.
