I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a web-based dos emulator that would allow running dos games through a browser window? Perhaps written in Flash, Silverlight, AJAX, or Java?

Wow, nice question. – Fantomas Apr 22 '10 at 1:25
Exactly how would such an emulator work? The DOS "API" was a just a collection of assembly-language subroutines, and most DOS games made direct use of the x86 architecture. How would you expect an emulator for that to be written in (say) Flash? – Daniel Pryden Apr 22 '10 at 1:26
@jason - I guess...though, I don't expect many "super users" would be looking for a dos emulator that embeds into a website? I also semi expected that any such emulator would likely be an ongoing and open source effort. :) – davemackey Apr 22 '10 at 1:40
@daniel - I'm not entirely sure, but I did know that JavaPC exists...and that some sites (such as GameTap) appear to be doing some form of emulation for older DOS games which can now be played online. – davemackey Apr 22 '10 at 1:41
this is a fascinating question, but gaming questions and web application questions are offtopic here. – quack quixote Apr 22 '10 at 2:09

JPC is an x86 emulator written in Java. Now that's not strictly a DOS emulator, but you should be able to emulate DOS on it if it works properly. That being said, they have some DOS games on their demo page.
