I'm having an issue installing KB973685 via Windows Update and manually. I receive the error below when trying to install it manually:

Error opening installation log file. Verify that the installation log file exists and is writable.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

This error occurs if the installation program failed to create a log file in the same directory where the installation file is located - which is read only. Are you executing the setup file from a CD-ROM / non-writeable media? If so, copy the installation file to a local hard drive and rerun the setup. – Mehper C. Palavuzlar Apr 27 '10 at 6:27
