Personally I find the font used for the menu bar on my 13" Macbook Pro a bit too blocky looking, as show in the screen shot below. On the screen shot you can see that the W for example is very blocky.

Does anyone have recommendations for font types, sizes and styles that look smoother?

I guess that needs a screenshot, as the menubar on my 13" MacBook looks fine to me. (Are you using the transparent menubar?) – Arjan May 8 '10 at 16:20
You probably installed more fonts than you need already and are now experiencing a font conflict. – Hasaan Chop May 8 '10 at 21:32
No this is setup just like in the store. – justinhj May 9 '10 at 2:30
Then you need to post a screenshot because nobody has any idea what you're talking about. – Hasaan Chop May 9 '10 at 3:47
You could just go to the store and look at one? Or look at any macbook in the Universe. – justinhj Jun 15 '10 at 23:05

Well, you can't really change the menu bar font (at least, not easily/safely). Are you using font smoothing?

I notice the same thing too from time to time (over the last year or two and more than one mac). Usually I decide I probably need a break but it does seem a bit seem a bit strange. btw I don't think your screenshot really captures the issue.
