What’s the best Remote Desktop Application?

Could anyone recommend me good reliable and free remote desktop client and server for Windosw? UntraVNC does not work for me saying "Connecting..." and never connecting. Free edition of RealVNC does not do encryption. Any ideas?

Please edit - what is the host and remote OS's that you intend to use? –  Blackbeagle May 11 '10 at 21:42
@Blackbeagle - he states Windows in his question. –  MDMarra May 11 '10 at 21:52
Home/Pro? Win XP, Win Vista, Win 7, 32 bit or 64 bit. Also is this for home or business? There are some makers who have simple versions of their programs for home use only. Logmein Free for example is listed as a personal program, not a business program. –  Blackbeagle May 11 '10 at 22:53

TeamViewer is easy to set up and includes encryption.

Why not just use the Remote Desktop client (MSTSC) that comes with Windows?

I could use it but when I connect to server desctop, its real screen shows locked screen. I need a shared desktop. –  sfdsdf May 11 '10 at 21:43
@sfdsdf - I'm not sure why you downvoted. You didn't give any requirements other than remote desktop access. You shouldn't penalize others for not being able to read your mind. –  MDMarra May 11 '10 at 21:51
Also: RDP can do desktop sharing. –  Joel Coehoorn May 11 '10 at 22:09
@Joel: On Windows client editions? How so? I've seen the hacks to allow multiple users, but not a shared desktop. –  afrazier May 11 '10 at 22:13
to MarkM: I have not downvoted. That was not me. ******** to Joel Coehoorn: How can I make RDP sharing desktop like remote assistance does? –  sfdsdf May 11 '10 at 22:16

Did you get RealVNC to work? UltraVNC should work when configured correctly. Try it without any plugins first to make sure your connectivity and connection options work, then worry about the encryption plugins.
