How can I change the icon of a Command Prompt icon that's pinned to my Windows 7 taskbar?

I've gone into its properties, selected "Change icon", browsed to the new icon, and pressed "OK". The system acts as Windows always has in that situation, but the icon does not change.

Agreed. I was about to post the same answer. I have tested it. – VerGuy May 16 '10 at 10:17

My windows 7 Professional will not change the icon on the desktop for me. I go to the properties, click CHANGE ICON, and choose ANY icon listed, click APPLY and then OK and the desktop icon is still that of a blank, white notepad type icon. I cannot seem to get the system to put any other icon on that link for some reason. Not sure how to remedy this?
