When I sign up for an account with a domain name registrar like 10dollar.ca, it asks for my address and phone number. Will these show up when someone does a WHOIS lookup on my domain name?

I noticed that when you do a WHOIS lookup on some websites (e.g. http://www.chrismanieri.ca), no address/phone number comes up. I want mine to be like that, too (don't want my address/phone number exposed to the public).

Well, many registrars offer private registration for a fees in addition to what you are supposed to pay. In such a scenario, registrar's address is shown up in WHOIS record.

I got caught out by this. My details were visible, but when I asked for them to be made private I forgot to ask if there would be a charge - which there was. – ChrisF May 16 '10 at 19:59
Some hosting businesses, like Dreamhost.com, offer this service free of charge. – Torben Gundtofte-Bruun Aug 10 '10 at 5:58
