I am using Google Docs. I would like to have offline copies of my documents on my different machines—Mac, Windows and Linux—that are updated automatically. Do you know of any solution for this?

You can try cloudHQ. There are two cloudHQ services which might help: cloudHQ for Dropbox http://www.cloudhq.net/dropbox or cloudHQ for Sugarsync http://www.cloudHQ.net/sugarsync

This product basically synchronizes Google Docs with Dropbox or SugarSync servers and then Dropbox or SugarSync will then synch it with your local machine. So you will have all your Google Docs offline on your computer and in SugarSync or Dropbox.

Additional to sync and backup of Google Docs to SugarSync or Dropbox, you can browse, copy/move, and edit Dropbox or SugarSync document directly from Google Apps window.

Assuming you mean you want to be able to edit Google Docs through your browser while offline, Google Gears supports this. This page has information about what features are supported specifically.

Unfortunately Google Gears is not yet supported for the Linux or Mac versions of Chrome, but it is supported by Firefox on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
