I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows.

Can anyone recommend an easy to use GUI-based and free FTP client for my platform?

Also, get friendly with MacUpdate. Most useful Mac software gets indexed there.

Good stuff, thanks! – George2 May 18 '10 at 1:23

If you don't mind the small price, get Transmit. Hands down the best client for OS X.

Version 4 of Transmit is really much better than before. I was using a different FTP client, but returned to Transmit recently. – kiamlaluno Jun 17 '10 at 12:46

FileZilla has versions for Mac, Linux, and Windows. It is also free and open source.

If you want secure file transfers, Fugu is a good GUI version of SFTP/scp.

The Finder opens FTP sites and you can transfer files that way without external software. Cmd + K opens a window to open a server.

True, but: read-only, right? – Arjan May 17 '10 at 18:50
Is it still? This refers to 10.2 (or maybe higher too?). I haven't tested uploads via the Finder. Otherwise I'd go for Transmit, but that's not free... – Henno May 18 '10 at 4:23

Filezilla and Cyberduck are free solutions, though i haven't tried either much

There is also the built in FTP client of the Finder. (command-k then ftp://..)

This link mentions some of the FTP clients mentioned by others as well as some not mentioned.
