Look at this OpenOffice reference.
There is also a dictionary.

I think Zoho Writer should support Tamil

Google Documents supports Tamil as well.

You can use google transliterate IME with your word processor of choice. Its windows only but makes things a lot easier since you can type phoenetically and have it converted, rather than needing to learn another keyboard layout

Just for giving one more option:

LibreOffice is available in Tamil. And there is a spellchecker extension, too (but without stable release yet).
