• I use many Add-ons which helps me in Web development so i can't uninstall those addons.
  • and usually I keep open lots of tabs in Firefox.
  • And almost always keep Firefox on on my system.
  • I use default profile only
  • I always keep every addons and firefox itself updated.
  • I found some addons to reduce memory use on Firefox addons site , but user reviews were not good for them

still Is there any tested tricks to increase performance and reduce memory use of Firefox 3.6, which really works?

Since you have 4GB of RAM, I highly doubt its memory usage that's slowing down your browser. What kind of a CPU do you have? – Sasha Chedygov May 29 '10 at 20:01
@musicfreak - RAM is 4 GB but in use is only 2.96 GB. – metal gear solid May 30 '10 at 2:42
Then upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows. ;) But in all seriousness, 3GB should be plenty. If you are running out of RAM with only Firefox open, you should take a look at your background processes to see what is taking up all your memory. – Sasha Chedygov May 30 '10 at 4:34
It happens when i keep Firefox , Photoshop, Dreamweaver, IE8 opens at a same time. and my antivirus in on Auto protect on (Real time) – metal gear solid May 30 '10 at 10:08

Photoshop takes up quite a bit of memory so that could be it. What Firefox add-ons do you have installed? It could very well be those. I'd also try using another browser for a short while and see if you notice the same performance with it. If so, it's obviously something unrelated to Firefox; if not, it's probably something specific to your Firefox setup (add-ons, etc). You could also try vacuuming your database and see if that helps, but I doubt it will. – Sasha Chedygov Nov 6 '10 at 5:08

Use another browser like Chrome for normal browsing, or use Chrome for your dev work. Or maybe use a second 'portable' installation of Firefox for your normal browsing.

Also, Opera (at least used to be) is nice for tab packrats, it will (would?) stay performant.

Not without impacting usability. If memory consumption is an issue, get more RAM. It's dirt cheap

The bad performance you're seeing sounds like an external problem, and not the fault of Firefox itself. I'm a tab whore and I rarely see Firefox take up more than 350MB of RAM at any given time, and with 4GB RAM on your system that won't be noticeable. I also don't get the slow performance you're talking about. You might consider getting a new CPU, or checking to see if you have any background processes that may be making your system less responsive.

It's also possible that you have one or more add-ons that are slowing down your browser. Can you list what you have installed?

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but you could always use Chrome for casual browsing and Firefox for web development.

Also, I'll just add that the add-ons that promise to make Firefox faster have never worked in my experience, so I wouldn't trust those.
