My current NAS drive is a Western Digital My Book World Edition. However it has pretty serious problems .
So I'm in the market for a new drive to replace it and I'm looking for a drive with at least 500GB for around €150. (Shouldn't be hard, as that's what I paid for this drive last year).
Things to keep in mind:
- I'm not buying WD again. Between the Mionet crapware they bundled with the drive, and the issues I've had with it, they haven't given a very good picture of themselves.
- Ireland is quite expensive. If your in the US, add on 25% to the price you pay to get the price it will cost me once delivery costs and/or markup by shops is taken into account.
- I've heard that you can use the drive as a minimal Linux server. I've never tried it, as the process requires blanking the drive, and I had nowhere to move the data. But something like this would be cool (but not nessecary) for a new drive.
- For easy reference, atm €150 = £128 and $210 USD. (Links lead to currency conversion by google)
