The best option I found so far:

  • extract the file (this is a regular archive)
  • take a look at /QuickLook/ directory, there is a Preview.pdf with the basic contents of the presentation.

Interesting but does not always work. I have a Keynote file here with a QuickLook directory but no Preview.pdf inside it. – Nicolas Raoul Dec 12 '11 at 8:42

There is an online conversion service at http://www.zamzar.com/ (assuming that your file does not contain confidential information ...)

You can export it as a PowerPoint, which may be open-able by Impress.

Thanks, but I'm on Ubuntu, I don't have access to Keynote. – takeshin Jun 20 '10 at 18:28
Can you get the author to export it for you? – mipadi Jun 20 '10 at 22:08
Thanks, there are some sites that allow to convert to PowerPoint format too. But these are not the options I'm looking for. – takeshin Jun 22 '10 at 6:20
