I found this link to an explanation of how the Kahn videos are produced. There is a link in that page to several screen recording software programs that might be used (see this list), however the author does not claim that Kahn uses any of the screen recording software programs that he lists.

As I mentioned in my answer, in Khan Academy site's faq is said that Camtasia and Smoothdraw is actually used. (so even if author would not claim that, it's actually used.) – S.gfx Mar 7 '11 at 9:18

Seems he uses (source ) Camtasia (would have been my choice, too. It's 200$, but some computer magazines gave older versions for free, some years ago) to record what happens in screen, and SmoothDraw for drawing/image stuff. He later on uploads to Youtube, having even a Youtube channel. So, while he might be converting to mp4 , using H.264 codec, as mentioned, because is one of the best options to upload videos to youtube, he is clearly not using a custom flv player.

They probably convert their original videos to FLV or H.264/MPEG-4 format, and publish them via JW Player on their site.
