I want purchase a couple copies of SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition. Everywhere seems to only offer SQL Server 2008 (not R2) -- even the Microsoft store.

The wording on the How to Buy page makes it sound like the product hasn't actually launched yet, but everything else makes it sound like it's final (marketing all over the SQL Server Web site) and a trial version is available.

I don't want to buy SQL Server 2008 just to have it be outdated in the immediate future.

Note: I am in Canada which make limit my purchasing options internationally.

It depends... If you're already under contract with MS for products, then it's launched and available. However, for non-contract people, the story is different.

We're under contract and have been running it for a little bit now...

We're under contract for leased licenses for our servers (we are a service provider), but we do not have any sort of contract for developer licenses as we are not large enough. I just want to buy a couple retail copies. – GWB Jun 26 '10 at 1:51
