I'm planning to renovate my bathroom. I'm looking for a good 3d software which enables me to try out things like tiles and colors and preview it in good, realistic quality. would be great if I could also use own tile textures.

Give Sweet Home 3D a try. It is free and rather easy to use. I usually edit the models with Sketchup and then import them into Sweet Home 3D. I preferred it over SketchUp because it is rather difficult to use (my opinion) in order to place the furniture in a room... I forgot to mention that is has an integrated ray tracer, allowing depending on the models you use a more or less realistic scene rendering. I was satisfied with the rather poor results I could reach with my own models :-)

I use Google Sketch Up for stuff like that. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you start planning out your whole place, it gets really fun. They have options for changing the wall or surface skin with your own photos. As long as you have jpeg or something of your tiles, you should be ok. It works well with painting color options as well.

This is pretty open but I'll start by recommending AutoCAD but that requires training and a nice little licence... Maybe Blender, it's free but again lots of training... Ahhh you might also look into...

There is no tool better than Homestyler, known as DragonFly, from Autodesk, for these types of tasks. And who knows, after you're done with your bathroom, you may consider remodeling your entire house. See an example video on YouTube. Check it out and let me know if that helped you.

Virtual Worlds has a complete set of bathroom catalogues in 3d and can produce photo real pictures. I believe they also have a web planner version. www.virtualworlds.co.uk
