I want to know is there any anti-virus software installed by default on Mac OS X? Or do I even want to install it? Is anti-virus software necessary to protect Mac OS X from viruses? Currently, I don't have any type of anti-virus software on my Mac machine. | ||||

I have been using macs since OS X debuted without AV protection and I have not ever gotten a virus. Having said that, if you want to add AV protection then take a look at Clam AV, which is a free and open source anti-virus program for OS X. | |||

Or you could get McAfee internet security... I'm not sure if it's out of beta yet, but the beta's free, the site is here. Not sure if it affects performance though. | ||||
