Can you tell us what operating system you are interested in monitoring the usage from? Also, knowing what make/model of video adapter may be useful as well. :) – techie007 Jul 5 '10 at 20:43
I'm using windows 7, mainly. – stacker Jul 6 '10 at 1:02

If you use an ATI or NVIDIA card, you should check out GPU-Z.

Main Features:

  • Support NVIDIA and ATI cards
  • Displays adapter, GPU and display information
  • Displays overclock, default clocks and 3D clocks (if available)
  • Validation of results
  • No installation required
  • Support for Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / Windows 7 (both 32 and 64 bit versions are supported)

There's tons of programs that can help you out with VRAM monitoring.

3D Analyze should provide you with adequate information.

Maybe I'm daft, but I can't find anything named '3D Analyze' on that page, nor any programs which will show memory utilization? – techie007 Jul 5 '10 at 21:18
Hmm...guess the article moved. Here you go: download-free.programas-gratis.net/php/… – BioXhazard Jul 5 '10 at 21:34
What does 3D test mean? does it test from video RAM? – stacker Jul 6 '10 at 1:06
It's like a command prompt for your VRAM. – BioXhazard Jul 6 '10 at 18:58

Yes you can monitor video usage memory on your computer. If you want to check the memory usage go in BIOS. In BIOS under advanced you will option of video configuration you can check memory usage and and edit it.

I think you're confusing video memory usage with video memory allocation itself. By that I mean, how can you see video memory usage in BIOS - no programs that use video memory are running at that point. – Kieren Johnstone Feb 14 '11 at 13:30
