I can't find a free desktop cleaner wizard/program for vista. any recommendations? google search yielded craps or programs that are not where as good as the one in xp.

CCleaner is my choice, iused it under XP and now Windows 7 and it works very well. it can be customised by adding the winapp2.ini file, which you can find Add programs to winapp2.ini

Other options are

FCleaner

BleachBit

System Cleaner
