Possible Duplicate:
Alternative Windows command shell and console?

Perhaps this has been asked before, but:

I'm frustrated with CMD.EXE. Here is what I would like to do:

  • easier copy/paste
  • save long commands and reuse them later
  • syntax highlighting of some sort?

Are there any other tools available that improve the experience of working on the command line? Or is there a way to configure CMD to do what I want?

I'm running Windows 7.

Too late for me to add this as an answer, but sourceforge.net/projects/console is a very good shell wrapper. It will use cmd (or nearly any other shell you point it at, such as bash in cygwin) and add a lot of features including better copy/paste, tabs, etc. – TuxRug Jul 11 '10 at 23:26

There's the new powershell. Don't know if that's what you need.

You can also install cygwin for linux(posix) functionality in windows.

Then, there are the language shells, which you get after installing eg, python and ruby.

Finally, you can use windows' preinstalled script host, which is VB/JS based.

How does using Cygwin interact with Windows, in terms of working with a file system, or other differences between Windows and Linux? – Rosarch Jul 11 '10 at 21:40

You should try Powershell.
