Howdy. Here's the situation in point form:

  • This Yahoo account is over 10 years old. Never had a Contacts problem before.
  • Every time I go to Yahoo, it tells me it couldn't load my contacts. (It offers Retry or Cancel. Retry never works.)
  • Contacts are there if I dig around for them, but there's no autocomplete and they won't load when I hit "To" (or "CC").
  • I don't have any Yahoo toolbars or any other potentially conflicting toolbars installed.
  • This started out of the blue about three weeks ago, and hasn't gone away.
  • Doesn't matter if I'm at my desktop (Mac, OS X), on my laptop (XP), or at my work computer (XP). Firefox all around, but I tried Safari and Chrome and it failed in both.
  • The contacts do load on my iPod Touch, where the Yahoo account is my main mail account).
  • I did not make any changes to the Yahoo options before this happened.

I couldn't find anything useful in Yahoo's Help system or its dreadful "Answers" section.

I'm at a total loss here. It makes no sense. Anyone here experience this before? (I mean for weeks at a time.) Any suggestions on where to poke or what to kick to get those contacts back?

You say you access your contacts if you dig around for them. Thus, I would try to export them while you can. Direction for exporting your contacts are located here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/smallbusiness/bizmail/contacts/contacts-08.html

If you successfully save the contacts locally, you can then try importing them into your account and see if they work normally again.
