Hm, as a long time Irfanview user who used to use Xee as a very good alternative on OS X (Tiger), I now see no need to use an image viewer in OS X, quick look is instant for quick scanning and preview for more heavy lifting. I use the free version of Acorn for edits that Preview can't do, it is better than Irfanview editing-wise.

Their FAQ says: http://www.irfanview.com/faq.htm#Q49

Q: Can I use IrfanView on Mac? A: Yes, probably. There is no native-Mac version of IrfanView. However, you can use IrfanView in conjunction with Mac program like DARWINE. Take the ZIP version of IrfanView and unzip it or copy your existing Windows IrfanView folder to Linux. This is easier because the installer may need additional Windows DLLs to run.

What features are you looking for, exactly?

Check out the irfanview entry on alternativeto.net. It's an awesome site BTW :)

I'd recommend GraphicConverter X. It has been around for years and is still actively developed, and is great for opening pretty much any image format you can throw at it and image editing.
