I've just started "helping out" at a relatively small non-profit hospital here in Blantyre, Malawi and we're having issues with emails in Outlook not being sent. More specifics on systems/connections below.
We recently moved from having our own mail server to a hosted solution with Google Apps. Actually, the worldwide organisation moved to Google Apps, so we moved along with them. Since the move, we haven't had too many issues, except with sending email. Some users have now said they aren't able to send emails at all, even if they are small emails. The messages just sit in the outbox and nothing seems to happen on the send/receive progress window. Outlook Express does seem to be affected, but not nearly as much as Outlook. As least OEX tells you what it's doing (connecting, securing, authenticating, etc.). For some users, all I would do is close Outlook, open it again, and the emails would send right away (well, it would still take about 5 minutes, which is the norm for here). Other times, I would have to open one of the message, and hit Send again, and then they would start to go ("sending 1 of 6, etc.).
Here are the details: Windows XP SP3, Office 2003 SP3, BitDefender Business Client with email scanning and firewall enabled. We're on a 512/128 VSAT connection (costs ~$500 a month).
I'm guessing that may be the main culprit, although it also seems like Outlook doesn't handle timeouts very well.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
