I am looking for free offline software that run on Windows that is able to convert a picture into an ASCII art.

I have already tried Text-Image that is nice, but I am looking for a more sophisticated algorithm tuning of output results.

I haven't used it personally but the SourceForge project, ascgen2, has some good reviews.

Here's an open source project on code plex. It's free and runs on any Windows version that runs the .Net Framework 3.5.
