Vista reset my desktop settings

Question

Vista managed to reset my desktop settings today. When I logged into my computer it was like booting a clean install of vista for the first time.

When I look in my c:\Users\ Directory I see the following 2 directories:

C:\Users Tom

C:\Users Tom.ComputerName

How can I get back my old desktop settings? Is there a site that details this process (I'm not quite sure what to google ;P)
