I have been downloading back ups from my web hosts cpanel on a weekly basis.

The back ups are in tar.gz format.

However, when I try to extract them, I get an error message stating that they are corrupt. Some of the files are over 2GB in size, so I am guessing that they must have some salvageable data in them.

Does anyone know of a GUI based utility I can use to extract the data (either for Mac 10.6 or Windows XP)? All the Google searches I do throw up command lines tools, but I don't know how to use the command line.

What are you extracting them with? Have you tried other extraction programs like 7zip? – crazysim Aug 5 '10 at 1:56
Hi. Thank you for your help! I have tried using 7-zip on Windows XP and the built in file extractor on Mac OSX Snow Leoapard. – big_smile Aug 5 '10 at 8:26
