Please confirm: your operating system is Windows XP or 7. You're saying that when you copy something to the clipboard, then right-click on the desktop, the paste option is disabled. What are you trying to copy/paste? – boot13 Aug 7 '10 at 13:56
window xp without any update before, because i do not have official xp cd, notebook recovery disk can not be used after changing hard disk, it force me to use pirate cd, however, i enter my notebook license's xp license. I still afraid that can not use window xp after update. so i do not update – user45543 Aug 8 '10 at 11:37
If you have connected this unpatched Windows XP computer directly to the Internet for more than a few minutes, it is almost certainly infected with malware of some kind. If the computer is connected to a router, it's less vulnerable. But again: what are you trying to copy, and where are you trying to paste it? – boot13 Aug 8 '10 at 12:51
@boot13: Actually, not many malware writers use port scanners anymore. It's more hacking the websites and inserting malicious code. – Hello71 Aug 8 '10 at 13:44
@Hello71: Have you spent any time analyzing the traffic that hits your router from the Internet recently? I still see tons of port scans and hack attempts. RDP attacks alone occur daily. A fun experiment is to connect an unpatched WinXP machine directly to the net and monitor what happens. – boot13 Aug 8 '10 at 15:21
