Software to diagnose Windows 7 boot problems

Question

Is there any software of built in way in Windows 7 to see some log file on why the system is trying to boot, then after some time reboots itself?

If Windows 7 recovery does not help, is there any other 3rd party software which will help me to do that?

	This is the info I've found during recovery: `a patch is preventing the system from starting`. Any ideas what to try next? Windows can't recover automatically. – Pablo Aug 12 '10 at 0:50
