I'm totally sick and tired to starting my VMWare and run the Windows VM, and opening iTunes every time I want to do something with my iPhone.

Is there any alternatives out there for iPhone 3G on 3.0 firmware?

I don't mind jailbreaking it.

It would depend on what you mean by "managing". What do you want to do? Get music on it? Edit your contact lists ? – GodEater Aug 3 '09 at 10:18
I guess we should assume your OS is unix/linux? – Marnix A. van Ammers Jul 30 '10 at 2:25

You will need to jailbreak your iphone. You did not mention what flavor of linux you were using. Here is some info related to Ubuntu.

NOTE: Ubuntu 10.04 already supports the file transfer. Don't know if you need a break. Try it without that first. – Shiki Jun 26 '10 at 12:03

Songbird.

Unless they have updated it recently (I'm at work and can't check) Songbird can't be used to sync iPhones or iPod Touch devices. I give you a 'virtual' -1 until I can prove this to be true. – codeLes Aug 7 '09 at 19:34
Although I wish you were correct, I would love to be able to manage my iPhone with 3.0 firmware from within Linux... alas... my next phone will run Android! – codeLes Aug 7 '09 at 19:35
i see that the songbird wiki says that there is no support for iPhones, you can import/export your iTunes library, but this still requires you to have to use iTunes to update the device. – codeLes Aug 7 '09 at 19:45
