I'm planning on getting a new keyboard since my old one is well, old and worn out. I do most of my work on my laptop, my Desktop PC I use mostly for gaming. I'm by no means a hardcore gamer, however I do want a keyboard that will fit my needs. Most gaming I do is RTS with some FPS on the side.

The keyboard I've had my eye on is the Logitech Gaming Keyboard (G110) http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboards/keyboard/devices/5902

It seems that it will do good for gaming, yet it will still serve as a normal keyboard.

Do you guys think that this is overkill? I mean a keyboard is a keyboard.

First, such questions are outside scope of this site. Read superuser.com/faq Next it mainly depends on how much you are going to use that keyboard. From users standpoint keyboard, mouse and screen are THE most used devices. You'll spend your day staring at the screen with your hands on mouse or keyboard. DO you really want to save on them? Also keep in mind that keyboards and mice "age" slower that processors and graphics cards, so if you get a good keyboard it'll be able tolast until it breaks. – AndrejaKo Aug 13 '10 at 16:46

I think that if you don't mind the price, and larger size, go for it. Otherwise, you might be fine with a more "normal" keyboard.

I have a Logitech G15 keyboard (another gaming keyboard) and it works great for normal day to day use.
