Hello I am running Windows XP and I am unable to connect to the internet with IE but Chrome and Firefox are connecting just fine. I have downloaded internet explorer 8 and its still not connecting. Is there some sort of setting I am not checking to allow IE to connect to the Internet?

@waterfallrain Checkout the proxy config in IE Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings Uncheck if you have "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checked.

In addition to the other answers...make sure you're not set to Work Offline (in the file menu).

Could be an extension or some plugin you have installed in IE. Chrome uses IE's proxy settings so the issue is something related more to IE only would be my guess. Have you check the system with HiJackthis and removed all your BHO's you don't need and checked for other items that can be removed? Are all the toolbars and all your software up to date? You can use the FileHippo update checker to help you with this and PSI.
