For Chrome, there is actually an extension that makes this pretty easy. It automatically appears in the toolbar when RSS feeds are detected on the page. Default settings preview the feed before subscribing, but this can be changed to add directly to the reader of your choice without opening an intermediate page. |

In Firefox, I use Better GReader. In this add-on options, subscribing tab, choose "(Bypass iGoogle choice)", and I also choose "smart subscribe", too. |

Install Feedly (available for Firefox, Chrome and soon iPhone/iPad/Android). This is an excellent replacement for the Google Reader interface that feels less like an inbox and more like a magazine. Feeds you add in the future will be added directly to Google Reader (via Feedly). |
