I went out and purchased myself a WD passport as a few of my friends were using them to store movies and songs, plugging it either into their tv or playstaion to watch. I put 5 or 6 movies on the passport and then plugged it in to the console but nothing comes up, the lights come on the passport and thats it. any ideas ??

The hard drive must be formatted in FAT32 for the PS3 to read it, by default the WD passport hard drive comes with a NTFS file system. You can always format the drive with a NAT32 file system for the PS3 to read it.

Good luck.

I'm now copying over movies on to it but its taking "hours" to do so??? – alex Aug 17 '10 at 23:18
Make sure you set the default for the allocation unit size limit, otherwise it could affect the speed of your drive. Keep in mind that if you are using an USB it could be a slow transfer due to the interface speed and your computer bus cache. You can use and app like teracopy [codesector.com/teracopy.php ] to have more control over the transfer speeds of the files. – octa Aug 18 '10 at 4:35
