I have a wiki about chemistry and I am looking for a MediaWiki extension to parse simplified molecular input line entry specification (SMILES). Is there such an extension available? Thanks.

Oh, I want the output to be either PNG or GIF, not an applet or Flash-thing.

I will downvote any answers about smileys!

Perhaps you can use TwirlyMol. It is a JavaScript-based solution, so you should be able to just load it from your MediaWiki template without having to make a MediaWiki plugin.

TwirlyMol is apparently being used on the ChemPrime wiki and an educational site, but I'm not able to load either right now to verify. You can also see it in action with the Chemical Identifier Resolver.
