I have downloaded some SVG graphics archive but it is a real pain to look each with tools like Adobe Ilustrator. Is there a simple and small software to browse between hundreds of SVG files?

Or even maybe a add-on to windows, which makes it even easier

Make it a HTML page and use Firefox – Dario Aug 23 '10 at 10:31

Install or portable

Just to view try IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/.

I have used in Windows 98 thru 64 bit Home Premium, with no problems.

[EDIT] Be aware that InfranView supports this filetype via a shareware plugin. Some of the nag "features" may not be what you want. Also, the render quality is not as high as opening the svg file in a modern browser with native svg support such as Chrome, IE9, etc...

Chrome can as well, I believe.

That’s my preference (more or less; it doesn’t yet scale large ones properly). – Synetech Mar 13 at 2:47

inkscape (open source) will show you previews in the dialog for opening files. not amazing but may be worth a try

Web Based

Try Raven

Useful if you don't have to do a lot. Check out the review at http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/free-web-based-vector-editor.htm.

The best IMO is the Adobe SVG Viewer. It is actually a plugin for Internet Explorer, but it supports more aspects of SVG than any other, including JavaScript animation.

http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install/

Definitely give it a try. One annoying thing though is that IE always asks you to click to enable the ActiveX plugin, but that's because of the anti-trust suit.

There is a tool named Batik. I guess it's a good one..

Batik is a Java-based toolkit for applications or applets that want to use images in the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format for various purposes, such as display, generation or manipulation.

The project’s ambition is to give developers a set of core modules that can be used together or individually to support specific SVG solutions. Examples of modules are the SVG Parser, the SVG Generator and the SVG DOM. Another ambition for the Batik project is to make it highly extensible—for example, Batik allows the developer to handle custom SVG elements. Even though the goal of the project is to provide a set of core modules, one of the deliverables is a full fledged SVG browser implementation which validates the various modules and their inter-operability.

Could you please explain a little bit about what this tool does and why it's a good one? – nhinkle Mar 13 at 5:11
